Enter a vehicle identification number (VIN) and unlock key details about your vehicle for free.
The VIN may be found in multiple locations on the vehicle, including the driver’s side dashboard, the driver’s side lower door jamb, the engine block, and the front of the vehicle’s frame. While the VIN may be listed in more than one place, it should match across each location. Likewise, it should match other records accompanying the vehicle, such as registration, insurance, and title.
When available, the Free VIN Lookup will include the vehicle’s year, make, model, trim, pricing, horsepower, fuel type, transmission, drivetrain, etc. Key features, installed options, packages, and specifications detailing engine information, and capacities are also provided in the VIN Lookup. Additional available reports are the vehicle and the mileage history.
A VIN is a standardized 17-character alphanumeric tracking code given to every vehicle and is used to understand a vehicle’s specification and history. Searching a vehicle’s VIN is part of a buyer’s pre-purchase due diligence and is akin to conducting a background check on the car.
A VIN Decoder leverages the code to decipher the vehicle’s description and history. Segments of the 17-character code indicate things such as the model year, manufacturer, engine, etc. These details are leveraged to understand how the vehicle was originally ordered and to discern if there are any modifications.
To get a Vehicle History Report, access the “VIN Lookup & Decoder” by entering the VIN and clicking the “Check VIN” button. The next page will display the vehicle’s information, including the year, make, model, engine, color, packages, and more when available, along with an option to pull its vehicle history. Alternatively, you can skip ahead by clicking on the image and going directly to our partner site for vehicle history. If a vehicle was manufactured before 1981 or is brand new, its VIN might not be searchable.
To find your vehicle’s value, enter its VIN into the “VIN Lookup & Decoder” and click “Check VIN.” If available, our tool will display the pricing details uncovered from the VIN on the following page.
