The Ford Transit is the automaker’s full-size cargo and passenger van offering, designed to serve a wide range of commercial and lifestyle applications. With 37 available configurations, the platform can be outfitted as a delivery vehicle, a mobile workshop, or even a road-trip-ready camper. Buyers also have three powertrain options, including a fully electric variant, providing flexibility under the hood.

The Ford Transit receives a couple of exterior updates for the 2026 model year, including updated taillights with blind-spot sensors and a new paint color: Wild Green Metallic. The technology updates are more comprehensive.
All 2026 Transit vans come standard with a 12-inch infotainment screen, wireless smartphone connectivity, and an 8-inch digital gauge cluster. An available Wi-Fi hotspot supports up to 10 devices, and over-the-air updates reduce dealer downtime. Push-button start is also standard across the lineup. Pricing starts at about $50,000 for gas models and $55,000 for electric versions.
Since many Transits will likely see commercial use, Ford also offers tools to help fleet managers track the vehicle's location, its preventive maintenance schedule, and any accidents.
Two gas engines are available: a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 with 275 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, and a turbocharged version that delivers 300 hp and 400 pound-feet of torque. Both engines are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive (RWD) is standard, and all-wheel drive (AWD) is available.
The electric E-Transit model is RWD and has a range of 159 miles. Notably, it is available with Ford's Pro Power Onboard technology, which can provide on-the-go power for tools, lights, or other jobsite necessities.
Buyers can specify the Transit with one of two wheelbases (130 inches and 148 inches), three roof heights, and seating for up to 15. Buyers can even opt for dual rear wheels, similar to a heavy-duty pickup. Bare-bones models, such as the Chassis Cab and Cutaway versions, offer wheelbases up to 178 inches and serve as platforms for custom builds.
When properly equipped, the gas Transit can carry a payload of up to 5,103 pounds and tow up to 6,900 pounds. The E-Transit can carry a payload of up to 4,201 pounds.

Chief competitors to the Ford Transit include the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and the Ram ProMaster. Both offer a wide range of configurations and body styles comparable to the Ford's.
The base Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Cargo starts around $51,000. It features a 144-inch wheelbase and a four-cylinder diesel engine producing 170 hp and 295 pound-feet of torque. Payload capacity is rated at up to 4,211 pounds. The Sprinter is also available with AWD and as a fully electric van, the eSprinter.
The base Ram ProMaster Cargo Van rides on a 118-inch wheelbase, making the 136-inch version a more direct comparison. Pricing starts at approximately $52,000. It comes equipped with a 3.6-liter gasoline engine producing 276 hp and 250 pound-feet of torque, with a maximum payload capacity of 4,160 pounds. An electric ProMaster EV is also available.
