The 2026 Honda Prelude reintroduces an iconic name with a modern hybrid electric twist. The sport coupe now combines Honda's two-motor hybrid system with Civic Type R hardware and includes a new Honda S+ Shift mode to make it feel more responsive in your hands.
Honda designed the new Prelude to offer a grand-touring, smooth-riding, eager-in-the-canyons balance for the commute. Arrivals start in late fall 2025.

There is a single, well equipped trim level featuring two electric motors and a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, with Type R-derived components for precision, and a generous standard package of technology and safety features. Power output reaches 200 horsepower and 232 pound-feet of torque. The Prelude uses the same hybrid architecture as the Civic Hybrid but it is tuned for a more responsive, performance-driven coupe.

Honda's new 2026 Prelude features an appealing two-door sporty design with a sleek silhouette and aerodynamic stance. The nose sits low, with a prominent front underspoiler. The roof showcases a racy "double-bubble" shape, and blue accents at the lower center of the front and rear fascia highlight the coupe's lowered stance.
The lighting features also receive special focus, with wing-shaped daytime running lights (DRLs) serving as bookends and a full width twin-bar taillight adding extra style to the rear.

Flush door handles, a laser-brazed roofline with no added molding, and an embedded hatch antenna keep the exterior looking clean and tidy. Standard equipment includes 19-inch machine-finished Berlina Black wheels and Prelude Blue Brembo four-piston brake calipers.
Honda offers five colors for the new Prelude, including Meteorite Gray Metallic, Crystal Black Pearl, Rally Red, Boost Blue Pearl, and the new Winter Frost Pearl. An optional black roof is available.

Inside, the Prelude features a driver-centric cabin. Honda states that the slim pillars framing the windshield and the low cowl hood provide excellent front visibility. Leather upholstery comes standard, available in black or a striking two-tone blue and white design. Both options include blue contrast stitching and a perforated houndstooth pattern.

The front bucket seats are heated, and asymmetrical bolstering offers the driver firmer, lower thigh support, while the passenger gets a more relaxed shape. The 2+2 layout provides 32 inches of rear legroom, and the liftback hatch, along with the 60/40 rear seats, provide flexible cargo space.
A thick-rimmed, flat-bottom steering wheel with a 12 o'clock marker and alloy paddle shifters pays tribute to the coupe's sporty history and ambitions.

Powering the Prelude is Honda’s fourth-generation two-motor hybrid system, paired with a 2.0-liter Atkinson cycle four-cylinder engine. The setup delivers 200 hp and 232 pound-feet of torque. It manages power through its electric motors, a direct drive gear set, and a lock-up clutch.
The S+ Shift system aims to enhance the driving experience by integrating paddle input, precise RPM control, and simulated downshift blips, delivering a performance-oriented transmission feel while preserving hybrid efficiency. Four drive modes—Comfort, GT, Sport, and Individual—cover everything from track day fun to daily driving.

This is the first Honda hybrid to feature Civic Type R components, including a dual-axis strut front suspension to reduce torque steer, wide tracks, large brakes, and adaptive dampers (retuned for the Prelude's use).
The promise is precision without punishment: confident turn-in, stable mid-corner behavior, and body control that does not overwhelm you. Honda equips the Prelude with 235/40R19 tires. Summer tires will also be available.

Honda Sensing comes standard on the 2026 Prelude, including most of the ADAS features common on modern vehicles today, like lane keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control, and blind spot warning.
New features include post-collision braking and next generation airbags, with coverage extending to front knee and rear side airbags. All of this is built on Honda's “ACE” body structure, which provides the Prelude with a comprehensive safety suite without needing additional packages.
Every Prelude comes standard with a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment display. Google Built-in offers seamless integration with apps like Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Google Play, supported by the free three-year unlimited data plan.
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring are included, along with a Wi-Fi hotspot and wireless phone charging. For audio, Honda partnered with Bose to tune an eight-speaker Centerpoint sound system, highlighted by new Super65 door speakers and a subwoofer tucked into the cargo area.

The return of the Prelude brings Honda back into a segment that has become quite lively. Rivals include the BMW 230i, Mazda MX-5 Miata, and the Toyota GR86.
The Prelude finds its niche by emphasizing hybrid performance and everyday usability. Unlike other competitors, it combines sporty handling with the appeal of strong fuel efficiency and Honda's well known reliability. This combination makes it an appealing choice for buyers who want something sharper than a Civic and more practical than other entry level sport coupes.
