2026 Lexus NX Preview

James Riswick | Apr 06, 2026

Lexus does not make any significant changes to the 2026 NX itself, but the model lineup does see some modifications. First, the NX 250 base model is discontinued. Second, buyers can now pair all powertrains with any trim level. Third, the NX 350h hybrid now comes standard with front-wheel drive (FWD), making the previously standard all-wheel-drive (AWD) system an option.

While the NX 250’s discontinuation effectively raises the NX’s base price, the NX 250’s powertrain was neither competitive nor appealing for a luxury SUV. It produced the same 203 horsepower and gravelly noises as the base engine in the old Toyota RAV4. Even the RAV4 no longer offers that engine.

While losing the NX 250 would have made the NX 350 the cheapest NX in 2025, that is not the case in 2026. The least expensive model is now the NX 350h hybrid, thanks to FWD becoming standard for 2026, which lowers that model’s entry price. Although the hybrid AWD system adds a rear motor, the total system output is the same as with FWD and AWD: 240 hp.

With all powertrains now pairable with all trim levels, there are two key takeaways. First, the NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid (PHEV) is now available with the Premium base trim, lowering its base price. Second, the F Sport Handling trim, which includes adaptive variable suspension, unique dark gray 20-inch wheels, and other styling elements, can now be paired with the NX 350h in both FWD and AWD configurations.

The only other updates concern color selection. Infrared is a new color option across all trims, while Ultra White becomes available throughout the lineup.

Beyond that, the Lexus NX continues to stand out for the very attribute you might have already gleaned from this breakdown of 2026 changes: the availability of multiple hybrid powertrains. The NX 350h will not wow you with its performance, but its 39 mpg combined with AWD is 16 mpg better than the turbocharged, AWD-only NX 350. That amounts to $1,000 in annual fuel cost, according to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates. The price difference between them is only $900.

Meanwhile, the NX 450h+ is a PHEV that offers an estimated 37 miles of all-electric range on a full charge (preferably at home). If you cannot or do not plug it in, the estimated combined fuel economy is 34 mpg, which is lower than the NX 350h’s.

Otherwise, the NX remains competitively priced, comfortable, well-made, and surprisingly roomy, especially the cargo area, which is far more functional than its specs suggest.

2026 Lexus NX Competitors - Find the best Lexus NX deals!

There are many compact luxury SUV competitors for the NX 350, but given its price tag, the Acura RDX, Genesis GV70, and the surprisingly luxurious Mazda CX-50 are good places to start. As for the hybrids, competition is minimal. There are no other traditional, self-charging luxury-brand hybrids, but there are PHEV versions of the Lincoln Corsair, Mercedes-Benz GLC SUV, and Volvo XC60.
